Food Safety Is Critical to Ensure We Leave No One Behind

Everyday millions of people around the world go to bed hungry, and a record 345 million people are expected to face acute food insecurity by the end of 2022 due to conflict, climate change and the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a global food manufacturer, we know that no single organization can tackle these challenges alone, but we have a responsibility to share knowledge to help. That is why Mars has partnered with the World Food Programme since 2015. Through our partnership, we provide in-kind support, such as exchanging food safety insights and providing training which can be used by smallholder farmers to help protect their livelihoods, reduce food waste, and help ensure millions of vulnerable people around the world have access to safe, nutritious food.

Meet Mary Mureithi

 

Mary is one of six Food Safety and Quality Assurance Officers based in WFP’s regional bureaux working tirelessly to ensure that all food WFP distributes is safe. To help protect food throughout the supply chain, from sources including smallholder farmers to the hands of the people receiving food assistance, Mars partnered with WFP to establish Mary’s original role and to provide guidance which Mary incorporates into the expert training she provides for WFP’s staff, suppliers, and partners.

Since 2015, Mars – a global leader in food safety – and the World Food Programme – the world’s largest humanitarian organization – have joined together to ensure that vulnerable communities around the world have access to safe, nutritious, quality food.
