The Mars GFSC Helps Address Mars Supplier Capability Building Through Food Safety Training
Food safety science is more important than ever, especially in a time of constantly emerging and evolving threats brought about by climate change and the increasing complexity of the food supply chain. By sharing knowledge from Mars Global Food Safety Center (GFSC), we can help upskill raw material suppliers and play our part in strengthening the shared supply chain, increasing food security and helping ensure safe food for all. In August, the GFSC brought together over 150 learners through a series of virtual and face-to-face training sessions.
The Mars GFSC delivered a Mycotoxin risk management training session to a selection of Mars raw material suppliers. Dr. Guangtao Zhang – Director of the Mars GFSC and Li Yu – SQA Director of Mars Wrigley opened the proceedings by greeting the guests and providing an overview of the work we do at the Mars to help ensure safe food for all. Dr. Yueju Zhao, Senior Research Manager at the Mars GFSC, delivered an introduction to upcoming technologies for mycotoxin detection and strategies for better prevention and control. Dr. Yongning Wu - Chief Scientist of CFSA, took the learners through a deep dive of a newly effective aflatoxin regulation.
The Mars GFSC also delivered two training sessions respectively in virtual and face-to-face settings on Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification to the raw material suppliers through a collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). This is the start of a newly signed partnership between Mars and this prestigious institution, whose expertise and experience in food safety disciplines includes testing, food processing, nutrition, food safety culture.
The Mars Global Food Safety Center strives to generate new scientific and technological insights to raise the bar on food safety. There are more professional training coming up, we look forward to providing more professional training in the future.
